Wakefield BID welcomes Thomas Wales as new Chief Executive

The board of Wakefield Business Improvement District (BID) is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas Wales as its new Chief Executive, effective immediately.

With a proven track record of being at the forefront of major events, including Wakefield Pride - which injected nearly £1 million into the economy in 2023 - Mr Wales brings his energetic leadership and fervent commitment to community involvement to the table.

He steps into this role poised to propel Wakefield BID into its next phase of growth and prosperity.

Since its inception in 2017, Wakefield BID has been instrumental in transforming the city centre with a significant investment of £1.75 million.

Under the leadership of outgoing Chief Executive, Christine Armstrong, the BID has not only weathered the challenges of the pandemic and the ongoing cost-of-living crisis but has also achieved remarkable milestones.

Notably, Wakefield currently boasts the highest spending per visitor in the country, a testament to the BID's commitment to fostering a thriving business environment.

The BID's commitment to enhancing Wakefield's vibrancy extends beyond economic development. Annual events such as the Classic and American Car & Bike Show, Wicked Wakey, Jurassic Wakey, the Rhubarb Festival and The BID Awards have become beloved traditions, attracting visitors and residents alike.

In addition to organising events, Wakefield BID provides essential support for businesses, fosters partnerships, offers guidance and champions city centre businesses' interests.

Initiatives such as BID in Bloom and graffiti removal have significantly improved the city centre’s aesthetic appeal for residents and visitors alike.
