COUNCIL bosses have apologised to war veterans in Doncaster who were told they couldn't hold a commemorative parade although other public events were allowed, including a gay Pride festival.
The town's elected mayor Martin Winter said there had been a "misunderstanding" between Doncaster Royal British Legion and the authority's civic office over the event.

He has promised his staff will work with the charity to make sure a Veterans' Day parade can take place in June next year and invited leading members to the council's headquarters.

The row broke out last week after the Legion claimed Doncaster Council said there was a "lack of amenities" in the town centre to support a veterans' parade. Members were angry because the authority had supported the Doncaster Pride festival and a civic parade for town dignitaries.
