POLICE searching for an 82-year-old man who went missing in Nether Poppleton near York have recovered a body from the river Ouse.
A huge search for the man, who has not been named, was mounted today when a member of the public found a pair of shoes and a walking stick at the side of the river. The man's car was also found nearby.

The RAF sent a Sea King helicopter to help with the search as police teams with dogs scoured the land around the river and divers searched the water.

A man's body was discovered tonight, a quarter of a mile upstream from Nether Poppleton.

Police said they were unable to confirm whether the body was that of the missing man until the identity was formally confirmed and next of kin informed.
