SIGOMA (Special Interest Group of Municipal Authorities) is one of the largest interest groups within the LGA (Local Government Association). They represent the interests of authorities and urban communities in the northern, midland and south-coast regions of England, providing:

– An authoritative and influential voice on local government finance and funding issues to ensure member authorities remain well-informed regarding central government policy.

– Valuable representation to ensure that some of the most deprived communities in the country receive the vital investment they need.

The job

They are looking for a Barnsley-based Head of Policy & Research to lead a small team that represents the interests of its 47 local authority members to Ministers, MPs, Government departments and within the Local Government Association.

SIGOMA said: “Local authority funding has undergone a revolution in the last decade and it has never been more important for councils to ensure they have a strong voice in influencing current policy and helping to set the agenda for the future.”

The salary is in the region of £50,914 to £54,518 and the essential criteria includes Level 7 CCAB qualified, in-depth knowledge of local government finance and policy issues, extensive experience of providing specialist financial advice and guidance on local government finance issues at all levels of seniority, external agencies and other forums.

The post holder will lead on the development of the overall strategy for SIGOMA and management of the team and overall workplan in accordance with the policies and objectives. They will be the key contact of SIGOMA for specialist advice and guidance and will provide extensive advice to the Chair of

SIGOMA in the detailed technical and political analysis of work, in support of the key objectives for information, debate, lobbying and development.
