Plans to convert a former sports club into 12 flats have been lodged with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council.

Developers hope to gain permission to convert the former Cafe Sport on Station Street, Swinton, into 12 flats, which they say will provide ‘much-needed housing’.

Eight of the flats will be one bedroom, two will be two bedroom and there will also be two studio flats.

“The tenants put a lot of work in to get the establishment trading again, but shortly before they were able to, a burst water main flooded the premises which set everything back again.

“They then carried out the work to put the damage right in conjunction with a payout from the water company. However, they have subsequently not been able to open the premises to the public.

“It now appears that it will no longer be viable to attempt to reopen the premises to the public.”
