Meatless Farm: Leeds-based vegan food producer falls into administration

Yorkshire-based vegan food company Meatless Farm has appointed administrators after struggling to return to profit for a number of years.

The news comes after the firm let go of a large number of staff from its Leeds facility on friday.

An announcement from consultancy firm Kroll said: “At the end of May 2023, Kroll was hired as advisors for [Meatless Farm], and has since been exploring all options for the business and its assets.

Meatless Farm sold its vegan products at a number of major British supermarkets, as well as in the US, China and several European countries.

In its latest accounts, filed in April 2023, the firm employed roughly 50 staff. The number of jobs lost is currently unclear.

Writing on LinkedIn over the weekend, commercial director Tim Offer said the business had “unfortunately made all the teams redundant”.

The firm made a loss of £23.5 million in 2021, an increase from losses of £15.4 million the year prior.

News of Meatless Farm entering administration comes after last month, meat alternative manufacturer Plant and Bean Limited also entered administration, citing issues around significant inflation and rising energy costs.
