An 84-year-old grandfather showed a dubious determination to keep living life in the fast lane when he was clocked doing 100mph in a one-litre Nissan Micra.

Humberside Police today said the pensioner was initially spotted driving at 94mph on the M62 by a special constable out on patrol with the force’s roads unit.

Officers began following the vehicle and recorded it reaching 100mph before they brought it safely to a halt.
