A pensioner was arrested after an unmarked police car was reportedly damaged with the officers sitting inside.

Two officers from Humberside Police’s roads policing team were in the car on Canada Drive in Cottingham, East Yorkshire, monitoring the area, following reports from residents that several vehicles had been scratched.

The force said around 12:10am on Wednesday a man, 72, is believed to have approached the unmarked vehicle and caused damage.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and remains in custody.
