High street team needs new chair

A TEAM established in York in response to efforts to improve the fortunes of the high street is seeking a new chair from the private sector.

City Team York (CTY), which was launched in August last year, is made up of retailers, York Council and a range of professional and businesses organisations from across the city centre and it aims to improve business growth, resilience and economic vitality.

City Team York began under the chairmanship of Coun James Alexander, the leader of York Council, but he announced in July he was planning to hand over responsibilities to a new private sector chair to continue the team’s work.

He said: “I’m looking forward to being part of the CTY with a new chair at the helm and continuing to support the CTY in its work.

“I am confident that this will remain focused on the future of York city centre as a whole and will put in place real action plans associated with this.”

The closing date for applications is December 31 and full details about the voluntary post are available at http://www.yorkmeansbusiness.co.uk/updates/city-team-york-chair.aspx.
