Police in North Yorkshire have stopped a driver on the motorway travelling at 116mph.

Officers from North Yorkshire Police’s Road Policing Group (RPG) made the stop on the A1(M) Northbound near Boroughbridge this morning.

The driver, a 50-year-old man from the Kent area, had passengers with him in the car, police have confirmed.

“Travelling at that speed on a busy motorway is simply not acceptable,” said TC Graham Waller. “If he had a blowout or something happened in front of him he simply would not have time to react, putting himself, his passengers and other road users at risk.”
