The Yorkshire Post says: An icon of steam. Legacy of Flying Scotsman
This iconic steam locomotive, built in Doncaster and brought back to pristine working condition under the care of York’s National Railway Museum, is emblematic of our county’s grand engineering tradition.
That it remains so potent a symbol is in large part thanks to the late Sir William McAlpine.

This is about continuity, and maintaining a piece of heritage as a living entity.
When Flying Scotsman steams from London to York in Sir William’s memory, there will be crowds at the lineside to see her roar past.
It is a nice thought that amongst them may be a young person who will ensure she can continue to thrill onlookers for years to come.
