Just Stop Oil: Stonehenge desecration by self-entitled tantrum babies will not save the planet

I am now utterly fed up and done with the apologists for the Just Stop Oil babies who, this time, have gone too far. Purportedly in the name of conservationism, they have desecrated one of the planet’s most precious heritage sites.

What they have done to Stonehenge, a sacred prehistoric site that has come to represent a tribute to the ingenuity of our Neolithic ancestors upon whose shoulders humankind today stands, is simply unforgivable. A wonder of the world afforded the same level of dignity and respect as a crumbling derelict wall in a long-abandoned sink estate. I’m sorry, but good people will not stand for vindictive, vacuous vandalism - no matter how urgent your message - when it comes with a spite that could not be more incongruous with the prevailing sentiment towards something so special.

Don’t listen to the faux-protest from plastic protesters: those who sit behind their phones tapping out like trained chimps the templated righteousness. Ooooh. I once saw someone say no progress gets made unless you make people angry. Harking back to days of yore where liberties were fewer, prejudices more prevalent, information less readily available as if those struggles that were won by some of the most courageous individuals in human history permit prats in orange hats to do whatever they like to whomever and whatever they please so that their tantrums are seen and heard.

Codswallop. The struggles and sacrifices of our foremothers and fathers are belittled by those who equate them to Just Stop Oil’s willingness to destroy and deface the most precious things on earth: from art to sacred sites.

The sense of entitlement enrages me. I care about the planet as much as the next person. I care about the planet I hand to my two children and yours. I recycle; I keep the heating down; I’ve ordered an EV and we at The Yorkshire Post have built climate conferences into our schedule in order to drive forwards the agenda by convening and convincing those who can make the most difference.

So please don’t come at me telling me I don’t get it and that carbon emissions can only by reduced if a small group of selfish morons smash stuff and ruin things.

I hope they throw the book at them.

James
