Plans on show for privatised rescue service
The drop-in event will be held at Humberside Airport, which will be the base for Bristow Helicopters’ Sikorsky S-92s, next Wednesday, from noon until 8pm.
The Government’s decision to award a £1.6bn contract to the US-based company means seven decades of the RAF and Royal Navy’s search-and-rescue service – and the familiar yellow Sea Kings operated from RAF Leconfield in East Yorkshire – coming to an end.
The Department for Transport has said the new service will be quicker, but locally questions have been raised about whether the new service will match that provided by the RAF.
