Rare birds offered university residence
Rare peregrine falcons are being encouraged to nest on a special platform constructed on a Sheffield University building.
University staff constructed the platform inside the tower of the St George’s Church building to encourage the birds to make their home there. The birds are often seen flying over the city, but have never successfully nested. Phil Riley, from Sheffield University’s department of estates, said he was “quietly optimistic” this would change.
