Show goes on for city statue appeal
Another Hull-born entertainer, Joe Longthorne, will perform at the New Theatre on Saturday to raise money for the David Whitfield Statue Appeal.
The concert comes weeks after Hull Council’s planning committee rejected proposals to erect the statue in Kingston Square, just outside the theatre.

Concert producer Tony Jo said: “It’s fantastic to be able to pay tribute to an artist of the stature of David Whitfield on behalf of the people of Hull.
“To see the statue finally erected, and to have been a part of it, will give us all a great sense of achievement.”
The concert features a range of artists and starts at 7.30pm. To book tickets, which cost £25, £15, and £10, call 01482 226655.
