Two-car crash leaves teenage girl dead and seven people injured

A teenager died and seven people, including a baby, were injured after two cars collided in North Yorkshire.

The crash, at 8.15pm on Monday, occurred on the A19 near Selby between Chapel Haddlesey and Burn and involved a green Ford Focus and a white Vauxhall Astra.

A 15-year-old girl, who was a rear seat passenger in the Astra, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 24-year-old woman driving the car, a 27-year-old man and an 18-month-old baby who were also in the vehicle were taken to York District Hospital with minor injuries.

The 30-year-old man driving the Ford Focus was taken to Pinderfields hospital with serious injuries, while the front seat passenger, a 30-year-old man, and two girls aged four and five suffered minor injuries.

Traffic Sergeant Dave Willey, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said the force urgently needed to speak with witnesses.

“This is a tragic incident which has left a young girl dead and a man seriously ill in hospital,” he said. “

“I urge anyone who witnessed collision or saw the manner of driving any of the vehicles prior to the incident to contact the police straight away.”
