Young footballers to represent England
The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is holding the fifth “Game On” Home International contest on Saturday, September 4 at Cardiff’s Glamorgan University, at which winning teams from regional finals will compete. The Balby team qualified after winning a regional final at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium in July, at which they beat teams from other former coalfield communities around the country.
Balby team manager Rick McGowen said: “The boys are looking forward to going to Wales for the Home Internationals event. The leagues and the finals day are a great way of getting kids off the streets, and give them something worthwhile to look forward to.”
Coalfields Regeneration Trust chairman Peter McNestry described the tournament as a “life-changing” event.
