Former Bradford City, Rotherham United, York City and Derby County goalkeeper announces retirement

Former Bradford City, Rotherham United and York City goalkeeper Scott Loach has announced his retirement.

The 36-year-old plied his trade in all three EFL tiers and had a number of spells in Yorkshire. As well as representing the Bantams, Millers and Minstermen, he had a trial at Leeds United in 2007.

Although he never made it in the Premier League, Loach was called up to the England squad on more than one occasion. He remained uncapped, but did make appearances for the Three Lions at under-21 level.

Later on in his career, after he had dropped into the non-league pyramid, he was capped by England C. He was most recently an understudy at Derby County but has now opted to call time on his career.

In a statement issued via Instagram, Loach said: “It was always my dream to be a professional footballer and I’m one of the lucky ones who got to live their dream. I’m very fortunate to have worked with some incredible players, play over 500 games for some great clubs and represent my country.

"But those who know me, will know I’ve found a passion in coaching and I now believe it’s the best thing for my future and my family’s future to step away from the playing side and attack the next chapter of my career as a coach.

"If anybody wants a 5-aside striker then hit me up but on a serious note, thank you and don’t give up on your dreams, because mine was worth everything. Much love. Up the goalies, Loachy.”
