Hull City goalkeeper Ryan Allsop sold to League One outfit Birmingham City - after controversial comments from Tigers owner Acun Ilicali

HULL CITY goalkeeper Ryan Allsop has completed his move to hometown club Birmingham City in a permanent deal.

The 31-year-old - who only joined Hull on a permanent basis last August and was one season into a two-year deal with the option of a third after joining from Cardiff City - had been expected to move on at an early juncture following recent comments from Tigers owner and chairman Acun Ilicali.

In a post-season Q&A with supporters, Ilicali revealed that he disagreed over former head coach Liam Rosenior's use of certain players, with Rosenior not taking up his chairman's suggestion that Allsop should be rested in favour of Ivor Pandur, a 1.5m signing from Fortuna Sittard in January.

With Ilicali talking up Pandur as the club's "No 1 goalkeeper" in 2024-25, Allsop has moved back to his native Midlands, joining relegated Blues for an undisclosed fee.

Working with Rosenior at Derby County in 2021-22, Allsop was an important member of the Wycombe Wanderers team that secured a historic first promotion to the second tier in 2019-20.

The former West Bromwich Albion youngster also earned promotion from League One with AFC Bournemouth in 2012-13 and lifted the EFL Trophy on loan at Lincoln City during the 2017-18 season.

Allsop made 38 appearances for Hull last term.
