LEE JOHNSON admits that ‘one or two’ Barnsley squad players are likely to be allowed out on loan ahead of the transfer deadline later this month.

With close to a full squad to choose from, the Reds head coach is spoilt for choice, with some players currently struggling to break into his matchday plans in need of game time, something he acknowledges.

The signing of Jabo Ibehre and Declan John has also added to Johnson’s options and made it more difficult for several fringe players to break into his first-team plans.

Johnson, whose side are seeking to record a sixth successive win when he makes his first return to old club Oldham Athletic on Saturday, said: “Players need to play, especially the younger players.

“If we get some experience for the likes of young Nana (Boakye-Yiadom), who probably needs a loan, then great. There’s a couple already out of loan which is good.

“We will assess and it is really important players are playing for the greater good of the club, not just to get their confidence, but to raise value in the player on and off the pitch.”

Peter Ramage returned to training today, although Paul Digby remains on the sidelines with a persistent ankle injury.

Ross Turnbull successfully underwent a back operation on Wednesday and is out for the rest of the season.
