Sheffield United, Bradford City, Doncaster Rovers and Rotherham United lead the way in The Yorkshire Post Power Rankings

A WELCOME back is in order as the Yorkshire Post's first Power Rankings update of 2022-23 is revealed.

Who has flexed their muscles and packed a punch in the early salvos so far? Here's the full list. With form based on results in all competitions (and expectations).

Beaten just once this term on the opening day at Watford, United are showing no hangover whatsoever from last season's cruel play-off exit - quite the opposite in fact.Paul Heckingbottom's side look the real deal. Imposing and strong at home - with the Championship's only 100 per cent record from four games along with Reading - United secured their first away success of the campaign at Hull on Sunday. Looking good.

Followed up a notable EFL Trophy success over Sheffield Wednesday by chiselling out a Harry Lewis-inspired weekend home league win over Walsall. City are starting to get their act together under Mark Hughes and are plentiful in terms of options.

Had a shot fired across their bows by Mansfield last weekend, but in anyone's language, it's been a strong and encouraging start to the season by Rovers, with Gary McSheffrey among the nominees for the League Two manager-of-the-month accolade for August. In the main, just what the doctor ordered after last season's relegation.

Yes, the raw data shows that the Millers, in all competitions, have won one in six. But stats can be misleading. The Championship relegation favourites have been beaten just once in the league this term and claimed another eye-catching result in last weekend's draw over promotion favourites Watford. In four league matches at home, Paul Warne's side are unbeaten and have averaged two points per game.

5: Barnsley WLLDLWPlunged into a tough run of games, the Reds have afforded themselves some uplifting moments, none moreso than at Hillsborough last weekend, when they became the first visiting side to beat Sheffield Wednesday since February. It followed a commendable point at high-flying Ipswich. Next up? Another pacesetter in Portsmouth.

A more than handy start, but successive defeats in league and Trophy to White Rose rivals Barnsley and Bradford City have temporarily halted their bandwagon.

7: Middlesbrough DDLWLW

A relieving win in the Tees-Wear derby over Sunderland has made Boro feel a bit better about themselves after an underwhelming start to the season. Still loads of work to do. Boro, who have yet to win on the road, visit Blackpool on Saturday. You must go back to April 2 for their last away win.

8: Leeds United DWWLDL

A three-match winless streak in the league has changed the complexion somewhat after the Chelsea highs and Leeds need a positive result against Forest on Monday to get things back on an even keel.

9: Hull City WDLWLL

After their early-season highs in East Yorkshire, a home reverse to the Blades have dampened City's ardour. Defensive statistics are concerning. No second-tier side has conceded more than the Tigers leakage of 15 goals. Still yet to win away too.

10: Huddersfield Town LWLDLL

Doing it tough. Town are the only second-tier side currently without an away point. They head to QPR on Saturday.

11: Harrogate Town DWLLLL

On a four-game losing streak, Harrogate really need to stop the rot in successive home games with Carlisle and Salford.
