Sheffield United 'hopeful' of landing Norwich City man previously linked with Leeds United and Aston Villa

Sheffield United are reportedly hopeful of adding out-of-contract Norwich City defender Sam McCallum to their ranks.

The 23-year-old is seeking pastures new this summer following the end of his four-and-a-half-year stay at Carrow Road. He was confirmed to be moving on at the end of the campaign, when Norwich shared their retained list.

However, it appears he may not be available on the free agent market for long. According to The Star, Sheffield United are looking to recruit McCallum to bolster their ranks.

Sheffield United are light in the left-back department following the departures of Max Lowe and Yasser Larouci. Lowe was released and has crossed the Steel City divide, joining Sheffield Wednesday.

Larouci, meanwhile, was only on loan at Bramall Lane and the Blades opted against making his move permanent. Rhys Norrington-Davies is still within the Sheffield United ranks but has endured injury troubles.

McCallum started his career at Coventry City and before being snapped up by the Canaries, was linked with an array of big names. Aston Villa were said to be interested in the defender, as were Sheffield United’s Yorkshire rivals Leeds United.

However, it was Norwich who secured his signature in January 2020. A loan spell back at Coventry followed and McCallum was later loaned out to Queens Park Rangers before returning to the Norwich fold.
