Sheffield Wednesday extend Soares stay

TOM SOARES will stay at Sheffield Wednesday until the end of the season after the Owls struck a deal with his parent club Stoke City.

Soares, who scored in the Owls' 2-1 win over Blackpool last Tuesday, initially joined the club inn November.

But after two successful one-month stints Wednesday have moved to secure the 23-year-old for the remainder of the season as the fight against relegation.

"He has really impressed me in the short time I have been at the club," said Wednesday manager Alan Irvine.

"He will prove a very important addition to the squad for the busy schedule of fixtures we have to come."

Soares is Irvine's second signing since taking over the Hillsborough hotseat, following his capture of Luke Varney on a similar temporary deal.
