Sheffield Wednesday in 'formal discussions' with Leeds United man linked with West Brom and Luton Town

Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly entered formal discussions with out-of-contract Leeds United winger Ian Poveda.

The 24-year-old is available as a free agent, with his Leeds deal due to expire later this month. Unsurprisingly considering his impressive end to the 2023/24 season, Poveda has attracted plenty of interest.

Wednesday, who signed the wideman on loan in the winter window, are understood to be keen on bringing him back to S6. According to The Star, the Owls have entered into formal discussions with the Colombia international.

He has also been linked with West Bromwich Albion, Luton Town and Cardiff City, while The Star have claimed there is also talk of interest from a French club.

Poveda played a key role in keeping Wednesday in the Championship, lighting up Hillsborough with a series of impressive displays down the flank. He quickly became a fan favourite, winning affection with his trickery and willingness to drive at defenders.

Leeds recruited Poveda from Manchester City in January 2020, picking up a player with an impressive footballing education behind him. The winger had developed with an array of high-profile academies, including Barcelona’s.

He showed promise at Elland Road but never managed to establish himself as a first-team regular, going on to spend time on loan at Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool.

Daniel Farke reintegrated Poveda last summer but stiff competition on the flanks meant game time was limited. When he joined Wednesday in the winter window, it was initially believed he would be heading to South Yorkshire permanently.
