Why Florian Kamberi is a 'brilliant' addition to Huddersfield Town's striking options

GIVEN the fact that only one club has scored fewer Championship goals this season than Huddersfield Town, the arrival of another striking option early in the January window is fairly well-timed.

The new signing, in the shape of former Sheffield Wednesday loanee Florian Kamberi, is also fully up to speed with the requirements of head coach Mark Fotheringham already - with the Swiss-born player in contention for an immediate debut in the FA Cup at Preston.

The Zurich-born frontman, who has signed until the end of the season, has been training with the Terriers since November.

Fotheringham said: “Florian is a player I know well from our time in Germany together, where I coached him at Karlsruher SC.

"Following his career from that point, I also admired his time in the Scottish Premiership with both Hibernian and Rangers, so am of the belief he is a good addition to our squad who can bring an additional attacking threat in the second half of our season.”

Head of football operations Leigh Bromby added: “Having come in and worked extremely hard since day one after first meeting up with the squad in Marbella, Florian has shown a willingness to earn his place and fight for his chance which is going to be brilliant for the competition in our forward areas for the remainder of the season.

"With so much important football to play between now and the end of the current campaign, it’s important for us to have as strong of a squad as possible to help us push on."

Latterly with Swiss outfit Winterthur in the summer of 2021, Kamberi scored five times while on loan at Hillsborough last season.
