Shacklady claims Leeds Senior Masters title with closing 66 at Leeds Golf Centre

STAYSURE Tour player David Shacklady served notice of his intent in the Leeds Senior Masters' pro-am when he shot a seven-under-par 62 off the yellow tees.

He translated that into title success over the following two days at Leeds Golf Club with rounds of 70 66 for an eight-under-par total.

It gave him a one-shot win over Brendan McGovern (69 68) with Paul Streeter (68 71) third and Andrew Sherborne (71 69) fourth.

James Murphy had a hole-in-one at the 232-yard par-3 16th on his way to a tie for eighth place alongside former European Tour player Jose Romero.

A field of over 50 professionals competed in the second staging of the event.

Nigel Sweet, the Operations Manager at Leeds Golf Centre – England Golf’s Club of the Year for 2017 – joined the Senior circuit for the first time in 2016 after playing the game for 38 years and set up the Senior Masters last year.
