Think Christmas, think Skipton: Discover the delights of a family Christmas in this North Yorkshire town with shopping, food and music, all rolled into one.

Those bells are already jingling in Skipton, where Santa’s little helpers have been busy putting the sparkle into Christmas, all set for a host of visitors this festive season.

Already a much-loved destination for people looking for independent shops – who doesn’t like buying something that little bit different for a loved one? – and with plenty of restaurants and bars, this is a year round favourite. Add in mulled wine, hot chocolate and twinkling lights, and this is a Christmas memory just waiting to happen.

November 18-19, Crafts in the Pen, Skipton Auction Mart

Over 200 stalls packed with home-made goodies and hand-crafted arts and crafts – support local businesses and artists and get a head start on shopping, either for Christmas gifts or to decorate your home.

Take your selfie – or should that be elfie? – on this Christmas trail with a difference, as you discover the giant gingerbread family hidden around the town, and piece together some puzzle clues to discover something exciting for Christmas. Post your answers in Santa’s post box in Craven Court

November 26, Christmas lights switch on

Make a beeline for the High Street for a fabulous fun-filled day, culminating with the light switch on at 5pm. Before that, from 10am to noon, the Santa Fun Run takes place.

There’s live music throughout the day, hosted by Rombald’s Radio, with local artists performing.

The market will be on all day, with plenty of Christmas themed stalls. It’s the ideal time to also take a look around Skipton’s independent shops to get inspiration for Christmas shopping, as well as discover more about its rich history and culture with an iconic castle to explore.

By 4pm the excitement will be building for the 5pm switch on – find out which local hero the Mayor has given the honour to this year.

December 3, Artisan Market and Christmas Markets

Browse round the artisan market down at the canal basin for an enticing array of talented home-made and hand-made gifts, all for sale. It’s just a short walk from the town centre, and well worth a visit. On from 10am to 4pm.

December 3 & 10, Skipton Christmas Markets

Skipton’s traditional Christmas market has a staggering 100 stall extravaganza to delight and entertain. With Bratwurst, live music, hot drinks and festive cheer, don’t miss these magical markets.

December 8, Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band Christmas Concert

Skipton Town Hall plays host the award-winning, internationally renowned, brass band extraordinaire, which will regale the audience with magical medleys, well known tunes and a Christmas concert to remember. This is expected to be hugely popular, so book your tickets now.

December 15-17, Robin Hood – oh yes it is!

This year’s Christmas panto is a modern twist on a classic tale of the everyman hero out to help the poor. Expect dastardly baddies, heroic goodies, silliness, songs and an incredibly good afternoon or evening out. Book early to avoid disappointment.
